Frequently asked questions about Heat Pump Hot Water.

Heat pump hot water is the cheapest way to heat water for your home. As energy prices continue to soar, heat pump hot water is a great way to save on your energy bills. If you have solar, the savings are even greater as the units can be run during the day, powered by your free, solar generated electricity.

Good quality heat pump hot water units last between 10 and 15 years.

There are two options here. The first is now. If you have an old unit and if you're looking to save on your energy bills, now is a great time to make the switch. The second option is when your current unit fails. This allows you to get the most out of your current unit. The key here is to have a plan. When your unit dies, you'll want a new one quickly, so it pays to have already done your research so you're not making rushed desicions. Work out which heat pump hot water unit you want and who will install it for you (hopefully us 😁)

We've set out a framework of four factors to look at when choosing a heat pump hot water unit. In short, they are cost, reliability, refrigerant and maintenance. The general rule of thumb is 50L of hot water per person per day. If you have 1-3 people in the household, 200L should be plenty. If you have 4-5 people, 250L+ and 6+ people we're looking at 300L+. Heat pump hot water units tend to be a little bigger than old gas or electric storage units.

There are three rebates for Victorians: 1. STCs - apply to all good quality units 2. VEECs - applies to most old units that need replacing 3. Solar Victoria $1,000 rebate - eligibility criteria apply. Please feel free to contact us to discuss which rebates apply to you.

Heat pump hot water has a few drawbacks. They are big units, so not everyone has the space for a big new unit. This might be problem for people with instant gas units, as they are quite small and may be hard to replace. Heat pump hot water units can be noisy, but this is generally not a problem as we set up the units to run during the day. Lastly some heat pump hot water units can be very expensive, but this doesn't apply to all units and with generous government rebates, we can often install a new, good quality unit often cheaper than a new gas unit.
