You’ll find no bigger advocate for electrification than me.
I have no doubt that electrification of households is the solution to a number of problems, specifically reducing carbon emissions and reducing energy bills.
But, there is one big problem with electrification: upfront cost.
Unfortunately a number of electrification steps require significant upfront cost. Heat pump hot water is the cheapest and most efficient way to heat water for your home, but, if you can’t afford a new unit, you might be stuck with an old unit that is expensive to run.
It can be a vicious cycle – you’re stuck with higher energy bills meaning you struggle to save for a new, more efficient electric appliance.
Powrhouse is committed to the cause and we want to give back.
Powrhouse donates 1 heat pump hot water unit for every 10 units we sell.
We know people are doing it tough. The cost of living crisis and soaring energy bills – it’s hard. We want to help.
We are proud and very excited to work with a few charities to help donate heat pumps to those in need.
Wayss supports people experiencing family violence and homelessness across Danendong, Casey, Cardinia, Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula. Wayss manages housing stock that they own and on behalf of other groups. In many instances, Wayss owns the properties and tenants pay a small amount of rent as well as utility bills. Heat pump installations will help these people reduce their energy bills.

We also work with Uniting Vic Tas, the community services organisation of the Uniting Church that helps people manage and reduce their energy bills. Sadly, Rowan from Uniting has told me that she has had clients that haven’t had hot water for 12 or even 18 months because their old unit broke and they were unable to afford a new unit. These are exactly the type of people we want to help.

We have also made a number of donations directly to people that could use some help.
We are proud of our social initiative to help people realise the benefits of electrification and lower energy bills, and we look forward to making many more donations. For more information or to discuss further, please don’t hesitate to contact Tim at tim@powrhouse.au
