Best of all, Powrhouse is free

Powrhouse does not charge any fees. Our model works by receiving a small ‘finders fees’ from select tradies who value a regular stream of high quality, pre-vetted customers. It’s effectively a small marketing expense in exchange for more business, but most importantly, does not come at any extra cost to our clients. Everyone wins 🙂

How It Works

The team at Powrhouse take clients through the following process. There is absolutely no obligation to follow all these steps. The following 5 steps highlight the full process, but clients can choose any or all of those that appeal to them.

slide 1
Step 1

Send us your latest bills

Send us your gas and electricity bills and fill out a 2-minute questionnaire which provides us with basic details like:

    How many people at home?
How long do you plan on living in current residence?
How are your current appliances powered?
slide 2
Step 2

Initial Consultation

The Powrhouse team will look at your current energy usage to assess two key criteria.

  1. Where can we make the most savings?
  2. Where can we save the most carbon?

The team will discuss your objectives and priorities, your budget and timeframes. The consultation can happen in person, over video conference or phone call.

slide 3
Step 3

Develop a Plan

We then put together a suggested plan of action specific to your objectives. We calculate and display the expected costs and payback periods of each ‘power move.’

If you have the means and motivation to switch all appliances at once, let’s go! In many cases, it might mean switching over a number of years.

slide 4
Step 4

Execution

Time to execute.

You’ve decided to install solar? Let’s book a time with Powrhouse’s trusted and reputable solar installers?

You’ve decided to seal those doors and windows? You might decide to do that yourself, saving time and money.

You’ve decided to install some split systems? Let’s call the electrician.

slide 5
Step 5

Stay In Touch

In most cases, we will stay connected with clients and help them along the way.

We will keep them updated of technological developments and remind them of key dates.

For example, if the initial plan was to reassess gas hot water in 4 years time, we will be in contact when it makes sense to switch to an electrical hot water service.

Why Electrify Your Home?

icon

Save Money

As Australia and the world undergoes a transition to renewable energy, we expect a great deal of disruption to energy markets. This disruption will lead to increased prices, especially for gas and fossil fuels. Electricity is cheaper (and free once solar is installed) and electrical appliances are fundamentally more efficient than gas appliances. Making the switch will reduce your energy bills.

icon

Safer

‘Natural Gas’ or methane (CH4) is toxic. The dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning are well known. As a colourless, odourless gas, leaks are impossible to detect without specialised equipment. The dangers of gas cooktops are also becoming known. The National Asthma Council of Australia states that recent findings suggest cooking with gas stoves may be associated with asthma cases and asthma exacerbations. Scientists have found that around 12 percent of childhood asthma in Australian can be attributed to the use of gas stoves in cooking.

icon

More Flexible

Electricity as a power source is highly flexible and inherently superior to gas. It is used in appliances, batteries, lighting and increasingly in cars and transport. Its ability to be green and flexible is leading to the electrification of everything. Households now and in the future only need one power source.

icon

Better For The Environment

Burning gas releases carbon dioxide, which we know is not good for the planet. We need to switch and we need to switch now. Electricity from solar is green and electricity from the grid is becoming greener. The future is clear.

Resources

Powrhouse is committed to reducing Australia’s carbon footprint and transitioning to renewable energy as quickly as possible.

As a sign of this commitment, we are ‘open-sourcing’ all of our research, making it freely available.

Households can use this research to make the switch themselves, or let us do it for them by connecting them to trusted tradies. Either way, we all win, most of all the environment!

About Us

about

Tim Johnston is the founder of Powrhouse. Powrhouse evolved from Tim’s family’s electrification journey, owning an old, gas-powered unit in Melbourne’s inner east. Prior to starting Powrhouse, Tim found lots of helpful information about why we should electrify, but found it difficult to answer a simple question: where should we start? Powrhouse was born in order to serve as your “electrification coach” – people don’t have time to research everything, so let Powrhouse help. Powrhouse has evolved further with a keen focus on heat pump hot water units.

Tim has two young girls, aged 5 and 2, and is concerned about the long term implications of Climate Change. Tim hopes his efforts at Powrhouse will play a small part in accelerating Australia’s transition to renewable energy and carbon neutrality.

If you are interested in discussing heat pump hot water units or electrification more broadly, Tim would love to hear from you by filling out the contact form below.
