Powrhouse is a mission driven business – let’s make it simple and cost effective to replace gas appliances with efficient electrical appliances, in the process saving money on our energy bills and reducing emissions.

We exist not to maximise profits, but to maximise change.

And it all stems from here.

1. Low Margins

Our pricing is razor sharp, as tight as it can possibly be. Of course we need to make enough to keep the lights on, but we keep our margins low so electrification is as affordable as possible.

2. Powrhouse Donations

Electrification is a wonderful way to save energy bills, but not everyone can afford the upfront cost, potentially being stuck in a vicious cycle of increasing energy bills and unable to afford more efficient replacements. We have introduced an initiative where for every 10 heat pump hot water units we sell, we donate 1 to people in need. Please see here for more information: Powrhouse Donating Heat Pumps. By supporting us, you’ll help us support those that need it most.

3. Maximise Rebates

Installing heat pump hot water units and high efficiency air conditioners are more affordable through federal and state rebates. But we’ve gone the extra mile to maximise the rebates we pass on to customers. Many installers use third-party groups to help them claim VEECs for eligible jobs (indeed we’ve previously done this). These groups are very helpful, but often take a hefty clip of the ticket.

You can see here that the regular price updates say the likes of Powrhouse will be paid $58 per VEEC (the image on the left), but VEECs are currently (as at Aug, 24) trading on market at $108 (the graph on the right). That’s a price difference of $50 and at 6 or 7 VEECs per hot water installation, that can be more than $300 (even more for air conditioning jobs which attract more VEECs).

In an effort to provide the best possible pricing to our customers, we have gone direct. Powrhouse is now an Accredited Person under the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program meaning we can pass on the full rebates to our customers.

4. Clear Advice

Heat pump hot water and heating and cooling can be complex. Where do I start? We’re all busy with family, work, running a house, walking the dog – who has the time to research the differences between R-134a refrigerants and R-290 refrigerants in heat pump hot water units?

Powrhouse is here to help. We genuinely love researching electrification and sharing our findings not just with our customers, but everyone, freely available on our website.

And importantly, our advice is unbiased and not salesy. Clear, simple and let customers make the decision.

5. Excellent Service

We strive to make our customers happy. We currently only have 5 star (genuine!) Google reviews and we plan to keep it that way.

But things go wrong.

We had one customer who experienced water hammer after a heat pump installation in February. While it was no fault of our own and we couldn’t have done anything to prevent it at the time of installation, we researched a fix, returned to install a water arrester and fixed the problem at no extra cost to the customer. On another occasion, we accidentally ordered and installed an indoor split system unit that didn’t have wifi connectivity (it was the same make but a different model). The customer had clearly requested wifi connectivity and explained his interest in being able to turn on the split systems remotely. We agreed – he had made this clear from the outset. We returned, installed wifi adaptors onto the unit at no extra cost and the customer was happy. We’ll take more care in ordering next time!

If you’re considering a heat pump hot water unit, or switching to electric heating, we’d love to hear from you 🙂
